Back when we had v3, we set up our installation so as to allow some kiosk pcs to always be able to view the dashboards.

I don't quite remember what we had to do, so maybe things have changed, and our configuration is not ideal, but here is what happens.

Whenever I visit the Mango OS login screen, it says that guest is already logged in.

This is on Chrome Version 110.0.5481.104 (Official Build) (64-bit).

When I try to log in using my username with higher privileges, many times it doesn't work, sometimes it does. I've had success with using the Developer Tools and holding down the refresh button for "Empty Cache and Hard Reload". However this doesn't always work. Sometimes multiple attempts work, sometimes it doesn't. I've even had to use incognito window to log in at times.

Unfortunately I don't know how to reproduce this issue.

Is there some way to resolve this issue?

@mihairosu Could you get logs where this was occuring? It's hard to point out what the issue is without the ability to reproduce it.

Here's a snipped of the ma.log while I was trying to log in with my username and the issue occurred where it kept me logged in as guest:

Sorry I cannot paste it directly because of the character limits on the forum post.

Here's another, I think it contains better information:

@mihairosu I was able to duplicate the issue.

              • I created a basic user (Guest) with no associated roles as user (Admin)
              • In Administration > UI Settings > Set Auto login for all clients for user (Guest)
              • Signed out of user (Admin)
              • Now as user (Guest) could not sign out of user (Guest) or sign in as user (Admin) and see same 401 warning in logs as you have shown.

The work around was to change the user (Guest) password so auto login would not work. At this point I was able to sign in as whichever user I needed.

I will have to discuss with our development team about the issue. Thank you for finding this.

Glad to hear it, and thanks for the work around.

                  @joeamiraglia

Sorry quick question. If I give the guest user a password, will that prevent anonymous users from being able to see the dashboards?

I don't know if it's possible to remove a password so I don't want to break all of our kiosk screens showing Mango dashboards.

@mihairosu If you remove the password or change it you will no longer be able to use the auto login feature on the kiosks unless you match the password again.

Well these are remote displays and they run the dashboards in Chrome Incognito so I don't want the hassle of having to get on VNC or God-forbid a wireless mouse and keyboard to enter a login for them.

I'll leave things as they are for now until another solution appears.

@mihairosu if it's running in a kiosk with an auto open, make it log in with the user and password as params. Problem solved.

Oh I missed that part, but I see it now in the documentation.

It looks like I already had this setting enabled. According to this, the guest user has, or should have, the password guest. I assume it wouldn't work otherwise:

I cannot find the "Auto-login (local)" page under "Administration", as the documentation mentions, which would override this.

Is it safe to say that my problem is not because my guest user is missing a password?

@mihairosu no not auto login, you go to a page with the ?user=bla&password=pass so you can access the site and use it as a kiosk for your guest.

Nah I did get that. I just thought from all the information I've received, it seems to me that our current configuration should also work just fine.

Anyway, I may have to resort to that; It's a good option.
