      Just wondering,

Is there a redesign or major tweaking of Mango's UI and visual design in the pipeline?

I know that most users (including myself!) would prefer functionality over appearance, but I think everyone would agree, it is looking quite dated next to modern webapps.
A new skin would be a really nice refresh.

Maybe the introduction of a feature where people could create and share skins would be nice. Of course some will prefer the current lightweight and functional skin too.

As a mater of fact there is. The first step to creating a new UI is to have a full API for Mango that will allow UI designers to easily exchange data with the backend. We are working on this right now and should have version 1 available soon. Version 1 will have limited features but will get things started and then we will add in the rest of the needed features as we go. This will allow the UI to be completely decoupled from the backend which has several benefits including easy theming and also hosting on separate sites, the development of mobile apps and many more exciting things. Redoing a new UI is a huge and expensive undertaking so I'm expecting it's going to take some time. The method and technology we will use will allow for customization and also the creation to 100% custom UI features using the API. The API will be released in stages but we will certainly be interested in feedback and use cases.

        Sincerely,
        Joel.
