Infinite Automation takes over the Mango project

Hello Fellow Mango Enthusiasts,
My name is Joel Haggar with Infinite Automation Systems based in Boulder, Colorado. I'm excited to share the news that my company will be taking over the sales, distribution and support for the Mango products.
I have been working with Mango for the last three years and now I am extremely excited to be continuing the support and sales of the products.
I am most excited about the M2M2 products which we will rename as Mango Automation and introducing a new version very soon. This product offers all the capabilities of Mango M2M but with much more potential to develop exciting add-on modules.
For now, the Mango M2M project will remain as is, but most of our development work and attention will be spent on the new Mango Automation. We would love to continue support and development for all products as requested, so please feel free to contact me and share how you are currently using Mango and any future needs you may have.
Currently, the transition is still underway and our new website still has a ways to go. For many aspects of the business, we have a clear path ahead but I welcome any communication and feedback from current Mango and M2M2 users.
I will also be emailing you an online survey that I hope you will participate in to help us understand the best way forward.

Hello Joel,
I have come across Mango and have been looking into it for the past couple days and I must say that I'm quite interested; especially with the integration of DGLux. There are some things which are really bothering me however as there are pieces of the puzzle which do not seem to be fitting together with the picture being painted.
Mango M2M was and is an open source project under GPLv3 promoting shared community development and freedom of access to the software and its code. On the Mango M2M website under news, and in your post here, you mention that your company has taken over Mango however do not mention any reference to open source software or the current and future licenses for Mango M2M and Mango Automation. On your web site, and after watching videos and reading through the forums I have seen details of a non-transferable license for Mango Automation, as well as buying it, however nowhere have I been able to find any information about the platform licensing or the state of the software openness.
I am not against paying for Mango, however I am looking for open solutions and transparent companies and projects to work with.
Would you be able to shed some light on what has changed since Infinite Automation has taken over the platform as well as how you take this to market?

Thanks for the email. Re-reading my post from almost exactly a year ago makes me feel very good with how far we have come since then. Everything I state there still holds true. The few things that have changed is that M2M2 (which we renamed Mango Automation) was a closed source product. We decided to make most of it open source but under our own license rather than a public license. Mango Automation has a free mode which he also removed some of the previous restrictions on. We still charge to use Mango Automation. Over all we made some very good decisions that less than a year later I can say are leading to great success and an exciting future for Mango Automation.
Mango M2M is still available as a free and open source product. Because of the need for a more viable business model our focus has been on the commercialization and development of Mango Automation which still remains mostly open source. We have integrated many exciting components like the DGLux dashboards, new data sources, improved performance and training and tutorials. We also have a large development effort that will be rolling out many exciting new features in the coming months and year. We also have a new website under development and with the new site content I hope it make things clearer to our visitors. Because of the licensing differences Mango Automation also has many many business opportunities around it for system integrator and OEMs.
To summarize I think you will find that Mango Automation is very open and easy to work with, we do charge to use it but you get a lot for what you pay for. That's great. Thank you for your clarification. It has helped me... and I hope it will help others to better understand the changes.
Having to pay for Mango Automation is really not a problem for me. I'm a huge fan of open systems and software, but also know that people need to get paid. It is also extremely valuable to get the support and testing which comes with commercial products. Open is great, but if you're trying to make a system work for a customer and you are hoping that someone in the community replies to a post to help figure something out, it is a waste of time and energy.
