PID Loop with Mango? proportional-integral-derivative controller

  • Any ideas if this is possible with an out-of-the-box solution, ie. plugin, some available code, etc?

I have a bash script running that modulates the fan speed of a cooler based on the water temp, now I need to move away from the bash script to a proper PID loop, either by hardware (PLC or the Inverter Drives) or preferable still by software using Mango.

And Happy Holidays everybody reading this!

  • Hi Alex,

You should be able to write a basic PID control loop in either a Meta data point or the Scripting data source. That said I think the best thing would be to have a control module that has PID functions built in. It's actually on our development list as we have similar application that needs this but I'm not sure when it will be available.

    Thanks,
    Joel.

  • Alex,

Depending on your level of coding ability you could check out the ControlToolbox module I wrote here:

    http://github.com/terrypacker/mango-modules

It hasn't been tested in any real world applications yet and the documentation for it is limited. But if you did use it I could give you some information on it and get it tuned up and working better with your feedback.

It currently only has support for PID loops but the plan was to add other algorithms to it over time.
