Just a thought, as long as SSL is implemented: Could this be a straightforward implementation? Might affect the minimum required version of JDK in order to make it work though... Was just thinking of security and speed in one...
Feel free to correct me if this brings more cons than pros....

Its already implemented. You just need to enable SSL and ALPN in your env.properties.

Read the notes in env.properties, you have to enable the ALPN script extension. It adds javaagent:${MA_HOME}/boot/jetty-alpn-agent-x.x.x.jar to the java options.

Well I feel like a muppet for not knowing that,... I looked under documentation and didn't see it there under the env.properties stuff so thought I'd mention it. I'll give it a try. thanks Jared!

It should work fine on Java 8, Java 9 might have issues.
