API for Page Editor

This may seem like an odd request, but was curious if there is an API for the page editor/dashboard designer, or any plans for one in the future. From what I could tell with the Swagger page there is not.
I ask because we have some widgets we place on pages for each piece of hardware in the field. In a perfect world it would be nice if we were able to create a page more dynamically than today. Our team could create a custom dashboard to allow a user to select the widgets to be placed on a page, and using the API we could generate the page from a template and add code for the widgets selected.
Again, this is a pie-in-the-sky, wishlist item for our client, but I figured I'd ask about it and see if there has been any thought around something like this.
