Suspend Event Handler/Alerts

We are buried under alerts and events that are triggered during routine maintenance. Could you add a admin feature that would suspend the alerts? Perhaps also suspend the events? Currently we've found the only alternative it to export and delete everything, then re import when we are ready to resume. Thank you. Ky
